Community Group Programs

Through hands-on experiences, participants will gain a better understanding of their environment. Groups such as youth and seniors clubs, church organizations, horticultural societies and Guiding and Scouting troops are invited to discover the Arboretum. 

Humber Nature Programs also runs various special events, including Owl Prowls, Snowshoeing excursions, and Maple Syrup Harvesting, for members of the community throughout the year. Check our Upcoming Events page for details.

Evening and weekend programs for community groups (i.e., for seniors, Brownies, Guides, Scouts, families, home schools, churches etc.) can be based on any of our school programs (for a complete list click here), or can be customized to suit a specific group.

Guiding and Scouting Programs

The programs are offered on a seasonal basis, on weekday evenings and Saturdays. Programs are generally 1 1/2 to 2 hours long. Participants should be suitably dressed for outdoor activities (i.e. comfortable shoes, raincoats, hats, mittens).

Special Events

The Humber Arboretum is a great place to host a Brownie Revel, Guide Rally or Cub Howl. Call us for more details. If your group is interested in a topic not covered above, please call Humber Nature Programs, Centre for Urban Ecology and we will try to accommodate you.

Guiding and Scouting Associations

Humber Nature Programs, Centre for Urban Ecology continues to offer programs designed to achieve the objectives of the nature oriented badges of the Guide and Scout curriculums. Programs emphasize the outdoor aspects of the badge requirements through a variety of activities. The following Badge and Outlook Programs (see chart) are available, with their most suitable season listed. Please note that the general Nature Studies Programs may also be booked.

Registration Information

Bookings can be made up to four weeks in advance. Call the Humber Nature Programs, Centre For Urban Ecology  at 416-675-5009.

The cost per participant is $6.50+HST per evening or $10.00+HST for a full day or $8.00+HST for half day Saturday program. (Price subject to change without notification).

Payment (cash/cheque) may be made by the Group Leader at the end of the program. Please note that there is a minimum charge for 20 participants. However, if you have a smaller group contact us and we may be able to help you.

If your group has between 30 to 50 participants, Humber Nature Programs will bring in a second staff naturalist. Please let us know one week before your booked date of any decrease in the initial group number or you will be charged for original number booked. We would also like to know if any siblings of participants are coming with the group. There will be a charge for those siblings joining in.

Cancellation Policy

The Arboretum is unique. When you book with us, we reserve the Centre for Urban Ecology and a Humber Nature Programs naturalist for your group.  Groups may confirm their booking by email or by phone. Should you be unable to attend, cancellations must be made 2 weeks prior to the date reserved, or a balance of 80% of the number of participants booked will be charged.
